New study says most single homeowners in Dallas are female

A recent study released by LendingTree shows that among singles in the United States, more women are homeowners than men, and this holds true in Dallas.

Across the country, around 22% of homeowners are single women, while less than 13% are single men. Texas is no exception to the unequal ownership of homes based on sex; in four of the Lone Star State’s major markets, single women outpace men consistently.

A trend such as this one may prompt real estate agencies to change the graphic design and language of some of their Brochures to be more appealing to women

Here in Dallas, 18.55% of owner-occupied homes have single women as owners. Homes owned by single men make up 10.31%. This places Dallas in the 27th spot among the 50 cities with the largest percentage of single female owners of owner-occupied homes.

In San Antonio, the difference is even greater, with women having 21.89% ownership compared to 12.27% for men – enough to give it the No. 18 place. Houston came in at No. 36 and Austin at No. 45 with each having around 18% for women and 11% or 12% for single men.

The biggest disparity between the sexes for single homeownership is in Miami, Florida, with Richmond, Virginia and Birmingham, Alabama following close behind. In mega cities such as New York and Los Angeles, the difference is nearly two to one in favor of women.
