SMU’s Meadows Museum will, for the first time ever, feature an exhibition showcasing a fiber-textile artist.
Starting on February 18, the Museum will exhibit the works of Teresa Lanceta, who is recognized for her intricately designed large-scale tapestries. Lanceta, a recent recipient of the Spanish National Prize for Fine Arts, holds an art history PhD and has traveled throughout Morocco and Spain learning about the diverse weaving traditions of those countries.
Banner printing services are often used by museums to promote exhibits.
Meadows-ARCO Artist Spotlight (MAS), which was established in 2019, is a six-year partnership between the Fundacion ARCO and the Meadows Museum that brings artists to Dallas. MAS is responsible for Spain’s ARCOmadrid, its premier contemporary art fair.
It is under the auspices of MAS that Lanceta will be in Dallas taking part in educational and member programming calculated to engage SMU students along with the rest of the community during her visit. Among the topics covered will be the history of fabrics, domestic labor and differentiating between “art” and “craft”. Her Meadows Museum exhibit will include some of her weavings, pencil drawings, and painted and sewn fabric.
Admission to Meadows-ARCO Artist Spotlight: Teresa Lanceta will be priced at $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, and will be free for SMU students, staff and faculty, as well as Meadow Museum members.
Ms. Lanceta’s exhibit at Meadows Museum opens February 18 and runs through June 16, 2024.
