Three factors were weighed by LinkedIn in determining rankings: job availability, good starting salaries, and affordable rent. The median annual salary for DFW entry-level “career starter” jobs is 65,300 and rent is $1,423 per month. Texas was well represented among the top 15 on the list, with Houston at No. 10 and San Antonio at No. 13.
The coastal cities that have traditional attracted college graduates – the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and New York – did not make the list. Although they still offer the highest starting salaries, their high rents were seen as diminishing their attractiveness.
Among the top career opportunities listed on LinkedIn’s list for these areas are teacher, software engineer, registered nurse, project engineer, project manager, analyst, and consultant.
