Uber might open their second largest hub in downtown Dallas on the border of Deep Ellum according to an agenda drawn up for the August meeting of the Dallas County Commissioners Court.
Uber has been evaluating sites and according to the agenda has plans to occupy two office buildings where Downtown and Deep Ellum meet. The two buildings would house offices for engineers, salespeople and finance executives as well as other departments of employees that keep Uber running.
Indications are that the innovative transportation company plans to invest around $125 million for an office buildout and deliver 3,000 full-time jobs with salaries averaging at least $100,000 per year. So far Uber has chosen to not confirm or deny it has selected Dallas.
Initiating a large presence in cities usually involves selecting Print shops to serve as Stationery printers.
This month, votes will be taken on providing economic incentives to Uber. So far it looks like the company could receive tax breaks in the amount of $3.3 million from the city and county in addition to economic development grants from Dallas for up to $8.6 million.
To qualify for the Dallas County tax breaks, Uber will have to create a minimum of 2,500 jobs by the beginning of 2023 and 3,000 by Jan 1, 2025.
The governor’s office will not say if the state has offered economic incentives to Uber.
