The Tenth Annual Hearts of Texas Luncheon put on by NBC 5 and VolunteerNow will provide an opportunity to celebrate and honor the history of service of one volunteer to the Dallas community.
The 2016 VolunteerNow Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ruth Altshuler in recognition of her six decades of service and leadership in the Dallas volunteer community. Altshuler has mobilized her friends to support worthy causes, and served on many community boards. In numerous cases, she was the first female to chair a board or even serve within it.
Her leadership extended to the Southern Methodist University Board of Trustees, United Way, Communities Foundation of Texas, Zale-Lipshy Hospital, Salvation Army Dallas Advisory Board, Salvation Army National Board, and Goodwill Industries.
Altshuler says it was her time spent in the Junior League of Dallas that whet her appetite for volunteerism and created her lifelong commitment to enacting positive change in Dallas.
An event such as this one provides an opportunity for promoting volunteerism and will likely be include in the next newsletter printing order of many of the organizations with which Altshuler has been associated.
The Tenth Annual Hearts of Texas Luncheon will take place at the Belo Mansion on April 28, at which time Altshuler will be presented with her award and receive the thanks of a grateful community. The event, which takes place on a Thursday, will be from noon to 1:30 pm.
