Rhode Island communities receive grants for outdoor endeavors

A statewide grant as part of the “Take it Outside” initiative will be providing over $3m to 41 organizations across the state, many of which are in Newport.

Newport will be receiving $75,000 to increase and encourage outdoor activities. The funds will support retail establishments, restaurants, and other organizations to help them stay opened and operational. Newport will be collaborating with Middletown in these efforts, as it had also submitted a proposal for funding and will also be receiving $75,000. This partnership will be called “Take it Outside: Aquidneck Island.”

Flyer printing is often used to inform the residents of such funding and its benefits for the community.

Joe Nicholson, city manager of Newport, had visited many businesses in the city to determine interest in the grant. He said that now that the weather is getting colder, the goal will be to work with the business community so they can be successful in their operations, and provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees and customers.

Shawn Brown, Town Manager of Middletown, expressed his excitement regarding this generous funding from the stat,e which will go directly to businesses to provide additional support at this time. He said there are some logistics to be worked out, and the goal is to get this assistance out to local businesses as soon as possible.
