Middletown to hold dinner to support police officer

A fundraiser will be held next month to support James O’Neil, a police officer from Middletown, who was injured in an accident with his motorcycle earlier this month.

Officer O’Neil is a veteran of the Coast Guard, is currently in his seventh year with the Middletown Police Department, and is a part of the Watchkeepers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. Jacob Silva, a fellow motorcycle club member, said O’Neil will be recovering from the accident over the next six months. As his wife is currently not working, O’Neil is the primary wage earner in the family.

There will be a pasta dinner, many raffle prizes, and a special 50/50 raffle. Proceeds from the dinner will go towards helping O’Neil’s family with any financial hardships resulting from the accident and to defray medical expenses.

Silva added that his fellow police officers have also started a Go Fund Me page to begin financial assistance for the family. Fundraising dinners such as this one and other sources of raising money are often advertised and promoted through banner printing.

The fundraiser will take place this Sunday, November 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Police Associates in Middletown. Tickets are available at the door for $20 per person and free for children, although any donations will be accepted. Tickets can also be purchased online.
