The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting a series of Wednesday bog walking tours in Stroudsburg this summer.
A guide will lead participants on a two-and-a-half-hour walk through the Tannersville Cranberry Bog. During the tour, the guide will discuss the bog’s history and wildlife, as well as local efforts to preserve it. The bog is home to flowers like calla lilies and orchids, carnivorous sundew plants, shrubs such as bog rosemary and swamp azalea, and animals including bears, bobcats, porcupines, and minks.
Space on the walks is limited, so participants need to sign up in advance. Those interested should call 570-629-3061 to register. The cost is $6 per person, which can be paid by cash or check on the day of the walk. Participants should wear closed-toed shoes that are suitable for walking in a wet environment. Walks will take place rain or shine. In case of rain, participants are encouraged to use raincoats instead of umbrellas. Anyone using bug spray should apply it before arriving at the bog. Nature sites often use brochure printing services to share information about the location and community programs.
The weekly tours are taking place each Wednesday between early June and September 13, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. Participants should meet at the Tannersville Bog Parking Lot.
