The winners of the Julianna V. Bolt Art Contest, the Martin Luther King Jr. awards, and the 2019 Boddie Scholarship have been announced by East Stroudsburg University (ESU).
ESU undergraduate students of color receive financial assistance through the Mary Gertrude Smith Boddie Scholarship Fund. Boddie was the first women of color to graduate from the school in 1904. An award of $3,340 for the spring 2019 semester will each be given to Angela Pender, a communication studies major; Naomi Ogbo, a nursing major; and Denasia Mosteller, a sociology and criminal justice major.
Recipients of the Martin Luther King Jr. Award exemplify Dr. King’s philosophy of justice, equality, cultural diversity, and respect for humanity, and are given to one member of the local community, one faculty member, and one student. Poster printing is often to announce such recognitions and to inform the rest of the college and the community of their awarding.
The Community Member Award will be given to Tameko Patterson; the University Faculty/Staff Award to Professor Stephanie French from the theater department; and the student award to Naomie Pierre-Louis, a psychology major.
The winner of the Julianna V. Bolt Art Contest is East Stroudsburg High School North’s Brianna Soule.
A breakfast will be held from 8:00 to 10:00 am on January 22 to recognize the recipients of these awards.
