Pennsylvania athletic league selects university basketball coach

The Social Justice Task Force of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has announced that Marla Simmons, women’s basketball assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University (ESU), will become one of its 22 members.

Such announcements are often made known through a college and a league with flyer printing services, and a new business card printing order often follows.

The group will be focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion and will be assisting the PSAC and those institutions which are its members in developing programs, policies, education, and initiatives to increase awareness and promote success in these areas throughout the league. Commissioner of the PSAC, Steve Murray, said that it is important that the PSAC have a positive influence on its member organizations, as athletes have often been the leaders in social movements in history.

There will be a combination of campus administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and staff members from athletic departments on the task force with one representative from each of the 18 member institutions of the league.

Simmons expressed her excitement at the opportunity to become a member of this task force and to make a difference throughout the league. She added that she is proud to be part of a group that is dedicated to stepping up on such issues of social justice. Simmons has been a member of the women’s basketball coaching staff at ESU since the 2015-2016 season.
