New exhibit currently running at East Stroudsburg University

There is a new exhibit at the Madelon Powers Gallery at East Stroudsburg University this month. The exhibit is a collection of assemblages and collages by Will Rothfuss, an artist from the Poconos.

Flyer printing is often used to promote and advertise such unique exhibits.

Rothfuss said that currently his works focus on Forms that organize vast amounts of visual data in architectural or geometric structures, and consist of text and images from modern art. This makes his art more hierarchical in nature as opposed to being more widespread.

Included in Rothfuss’ work are men’s silk-screened T-Shirts and leisure shirts with printed items of poetry, clippings from art magazines, and old master reproductions, as well as wax, Books, tools, and wood fragments of furniture. The result is that the works are assemblages and collages as they recycle visual materials that have been used before. The form ultimately absorbs the imagery, text, and content, which are fragmented and juxtaposed randomly.

Rothfuss studied drawing and painting at the Art Students League of New York City and art, history, printmaking, and abstraction at Cornell University. He has also been a scenic designer and cabinet maker. His full-time art practice is near Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania.

The gallery is opened from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday.
