Stroudsburg is holding its local Juneteenth Freedom Festival in Courthouse Square.
This celebration will be the town's 20th annual Juneteenth Festival, hosted by the Sherman Theater and the African American Network of the Poconos. The festival celebrates Emancipation Day, when many enslaved African Americans were freed in 1865.
Stroudsburg’s festival is a free community event that will feature food, live entertainment, games, face painting and a selection of local vendors. The festival is free for the public to attend, but there will be food and other items for sale. Entertainment on the main stage will include musical acts, such as 2nd Street Players, The Contact Collective, and Gynesis Radio. In addition to the music, dancers and a puppeteer will perform throughout the afternoon. There will also be information about the holiday available as well as opportunities for networking.
The festival organizers are pleased to be returning to an in-person event after hosting a remote alternative through Zoom due to the pandemic last year. Those interested in sponsoring the festival or becoming a vendor can contact the Sherman Theater to make arrangements. Vendors at this type of event often give out promotional Pens to advertise their businesses.
The Juneteenth in Pennsylvania festival will take place on Saturday, June 18 from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm, in Courthouse Square in downtown Stroudsburg.
