What's Happening in Stroudsburg, PA…

The 20th annual Monroe County Historical Association Victorian Tea and Luncheon fundraiser will take place at the Chateau Resort and Conference Center in Tannersville on April 29 from 1-5pm. Tickets are $30 for members of the MCHA, and $35 for non-members; reservations must be received by April 20. All proceeds go toward the MCHA and its educational programs.

The afternoon will start with a lecture by Victorian Lady Lisa, who will be dressed in historical garb, entitled “Titanic Memories” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship. She will describe the fashions of the Edwardian Era, the etiquette that would have been followed aboard the ship, and the history of her sinking.

The tea and luncheon will celebrate the gentility of the Victorian era with a lunch of salad, quiche, and an abundance of scones, muffins, petit fours, tarts, and truffles. There will be a draw for door prizes at the end of the day.

The Monroe County Historical Association is located in the Stroud Mansion which was built in 1795. They are tasked with preserving and protecting the history of the area and offer tours and learning programs to visitors and local residents alike. The Association building and grounds feature exhibits and artefacts from the history of Monroe County and Stroudsburg. They have recently published a book entitled “Monroe County 175th Anniversary”, that was most likely created with the help of local printing companies. The book is a paperback which sells for $9.95. The MCHA is an important organization that preserves the past so that future generations can understand their history.
