East Stroudsburg University students help those with disabilities

The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) recently received a donation of $1,000 from students of the honorary society Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta of the Special Education and Rehabilitation Department at East Stroudsburg University (ESU), through the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN).

The funds were given to members from LVNH and NFP by the officers of Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta and their faculty advisors at a special ceremony in Stroudsburg at the NFP office. Fundraising efforts for this donation included selling popcorn at local restaurants. The funds will be used to support the NFP so that it can purchase special equipment for families with children who have disabilities and help other low income, first-time parents in the county.

Flyer printing is often used to publicize such fundraising efforts and their beneficiaries.

Associate professor of rehabilitation and special education and human services at ESU and co-chair of Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta at ESU, Heather Garrison, Ph.D., said that she has served on the Community Advisory Board of the NFP for many years and understands the importance of providing support to young families who are just getting started. The members of this honorary society are supportive of programs in the community for individuals with disabilities, adds Garrison, and they understand that the lives of many people will be affected by their donations.
