What's Happening in Stroudsburg, PA…

Two students from East Stroudsburg University recently attended a program that prepares women to be leaders in the political system.

The program was the National Education for Women’s (NEW) Leadership Pennsylvania institute, which was held at Chatham University’s Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics in Pittsburgh. It is designed for female students attending colleges and universities throughout the state and is six days of a highly concentrated curriculum. Those who attend the program learn about public speaking, networking, and the need for more women taking leadership roles in the political process, and take part in skills building.

Such programs often use printing services to provide materials with more information about what was covered during the sessions, which participants can take away with them.

One of the days was spent at the capitol in Harrisburg. Participants heard from several legislators, including representatives and legislators on the impact that women make on public policy and the need for more female representation. They also spent time with justices of the Supreme and Superior courts, and a reception took place at the residence of the Governor.

Funds for the students to attend the program were provided by the interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Offices of the Provost and the President of the college.
