Bus scheduled shored up by MCTA

The Monroe County Transit Authority (MCTA) has increased the number of locations it serves, with a new schedule now in effect.

MCTA's assistant executive director, Richard Schlameuss, said the authority is timing its routes to get patrons to key educational and employment centers promptly. He also noted that there is a MoGo card that enables riders to “tap and go” when boarding a bus.

Among the changes introduced as of January 12 are an improved Green Route providing links among Stroud Mall, East Stroudsburg, Bartonsville, and Stroudsburg. This route goes to various shopping malls and medical offices, including the East Stroudsburg and Bartonsville locations of Pocono Medical Center facilities.

The Blue Route leads directly to the new Northampton Community College Monroe Campus, which is located in Pocono Township. Blue Route riders are able to transfer to Orange, Yellow and Red routes via connections at Stroud Mall, the Giant in Bartonsville, and East Stroudsburg's Walmart.

Lastly, the Yellow Route now serves Delaware Water Gap, as well as Broad Street, in Stroudsburg, and includes a stop at the Martz Bus Terminal. Other Stroudsburg locations on the route include North Fifth Street and the Eagle Valley Mall. During mid-morning hours, the Yellow Route is also running a ‘Water Gap Loop’ to the Eastern Monroe Public Library, and Weis Market.

MCTA could work with brochure printers on new schedules for the changing routes.
