Residents of Pittsburgh invited to brush up on tree ID

There are many species of trees that can be found in and around Pittsburgh, and each plays its own role in the local ecosystem. They city’s nature lovers who would like to learn more about these large plants and how they can identify them using a set of characteristics can make time for an event next month.

One of Tree Pittsburgh's certified arborists will be facilitating a guided walk through the North Side’s Allegheny Commons. As the group walks the trails, they will learn how easy it can be to determine a tree’s species.

In this hands-on activity, the learners will discover how they can use traits such as leaf shape and color, bark type and color, a tree’s outline, and other characteristics to determine what species they are looking at. The walk will last for approximately two hours, and the organizers explained that the outing is intended for those who are at least 16 years of age.

By helping to develop an appreciation of the urban forest among locals, an event like this can play a role helping to keep a touch of green in a city’s landscape. Community Calendars that include a schedule of events like this can be fabricated by area printing services providers.
