With the help of smaller carriers, Pittsburgh International Airport is seeing a steady increase in direct flight options.
Over the years, the airport has seen a decline in direct flight options for travelers. At its peak, it offered a little over 100 direct flights a day. Recent years, however, had seen that number go down to fewer than 40.
OneJet has increased direct flights and now offers options to Cincinnati, Hartford, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Milwaukee. The airline boasts that it enables passengers to reach their destination by 7:30 am and be home in time for dinner.
Direct Mail printing is one of the options Pittsburgh International Airport could use to notify Flyers of the upcoming and currently available options. As the flights fill up, it will enable the airport to increase the number of flights and locations. If the demand is there, the airport may eventually return to the number of direct flights it saw a few years ago.
OneJet hopes to expand its options to a handful of other cities, but is not the only airline stepping in. Southern Airways is offering commuter airplanes flying to and from various locations as well. Frontier is offering flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, and Orlando, while Allegiant and Porter are also stepping in with flight options.
With the current number of nonflight options hovering at around 60, Pittsburgh International Airport is hoping to increase that to 70 with the addition of OneJet’s five locations. The airport is working daily to continue to grow these numbers to offer residents more flight options.
