Howard Dill, who was a Canadian farmer, developed the Atlantic Giant pumpkin, and these oversized gourds will be taking pride of place during a Pittsburgh fall festival.
For two days in October, The Stacks at 3 Crossings will be taken over by the Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins festival, which will put pumpkins ranging in size from 1,000 to 2,500lb in the spotlight. They will be displayed in a variety of ways, and there will be lots of other autumn-themed activities to enjoy.
The festival will see giant pumpkins painted, carved and even dropped from 140 feet in the air to smash on the ground below. There will also be demonstrations of glass blowing, a pie eating contest, selfie stations, and plenty of other photo ops. The kids can enjoy the fun that will be on offer just for them, and the “pumpkin pedal pull” will be back.
One of the parts of this annual event that tends to be popular is its food and craft vendor area. The small businesses that will set up shop will have lost to browse through, and everyone can get their holiday gift buying off to an early start. Some of the companies may even be handing out promotional Pens and other swag.
The dates for the 2022 Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins Festival will be October 15 and 16. Everyone is welcome to be a part of the fun.
