Giant pumpkins to be centerpiece of Halloween celebration

The hunt is on for Pittsburgh’s biggest pumpkin, and this annual event is set to enjoy the first year in its new home.

The 3 Crossing Campus will now be the playing host to the city’s Monster Pumpkins Festival, filled with pumpkins and other colorful members of the squash family. Last year, it was offered as a drive-by activity, but this year, the organizers are hoping it will be an in-person occasion.

Over the years, the breeders of Atlantic Giants pumpkin cultivar have worked to develop plants that produce extra-large fruits that may weigh over a ton each, and these will be on display as a part of the festivities. The Pumpkin Drop may be making its return, and other activities will also be on the agenda. Many of these will be free of charge, and further details about the schedule will be released closer to its scheduled date.

The organizers of the two-day long function explained that it has been made possible thanks to assistance from several local companies. The Logo Design of these partners has been added to the festival’s website, along with information for any additional business that may be interested in joining the fun.

The Stack at 3 Crossings Campus will be the new location for this annual gathering, and its dates for 2021 will be October 16 and 17.
