For deployed military personnel, receiving care packages can make a big difference when serving away from their family, and a Bala Cynwyd area project will be assembling these little Boxes of love.
The event, which will both make the holidays happier for deployed troops and honor the life of John H. Todd III, will be a volunteer-driven activity. It will be set up in Kelly’s Taproom in Bryn Mawr, and all ages and abilities are encouraged to lend a hand.
The Santa’s Helpers will put together the care packages, and they will include items such as nonperishable foods, toiletries, baby wipes, Books, games and other donated items. The participants have been asked to consult the Philadelphia Treats for Troops website for suggestions of items to bring, and to thank the volunteers for taking the time to get involved, dinner will be served free of charge.
Participating in this type of activity can be meaningful for families of deployed military members, and it can also be a great opportunity for the community to show them their support. The graphic design team at a printing services company can prepare customized Holiday Cards filled out with a cheery message from home.
This chance for people to share some love to a soldier, marine, sailor or member of the air force who is far from family will be offered on December 9. It be located at 1107 East Lancaster Avenue.
