Bala Cynwyd project to show love to local trees

A project that will give the trees at a Bala Cynwyd area park some care will soon be underway.

Since many hands make light work, the organizers are hoping there will be plenty of community volunteers to take on the task.

The Pennypack Ecological Trust Foundation works to maintain Pennypack Preserve natural area for future generations, and it also supports efforts to protect the plants and animals living there. It has organized its “Free a Tree” activity day to help remove invasive vines that have infested the property, and all help will be appreciated.

The volunteers will be removing an assortment of species of invasive vines, and they are asked to bring a pair of sturdy leather work gloves to keep their hand protected from thorns. Pruning shears will also be helpful, but these will be provided to anyone who does not bring their own pair. Masks are required, and as the work will take place outdoors, the participants are reminded to dress for the weather.

In compliance with Montgomery County’s response to COVID-19, this activity will be limited to just 15 people. If an organization has a supply of Promotional Products on hand that are branded with its Logo Design, it can hand them out to its volunteers after they have finished a task like this to thank them for their efforts.

Pennypack Trust Headquarters will serve as the meeting area for those who register for this stewardship event. They are asked to sign up online and be on site by 10:00 am on January 2, 2021.
