A federal government announcement that local fire departments will be provided with additional money for extra equipment and firefighters will extend to Bala Cynwyd.
The notice came from the The Federal Emergency Management Agency, and confirmed that the counties of Buck, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery would share $1.8m in grants.
Among the departments, it is Delaware County's Tinicum Township Fire Company that is slated to receive the greatest share, with $549,600. The money will be used to augment its volunteer force with eight full-time firefighters. That money, as well as some given to Chester County's Longwood Fire Company, came from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants. Longwood is sharing a grant of $198,000 with neighboring Avondale Fire Company.
Both Tinicum and Longwood have also been awarded $52,000 and $83,500 respectively for the acquisition of equipment and training. Bala Cynwyd's Union Fire Association was awarded the smallest grant at $24,000, which is to be used for equipment and training.
Although local taxes are set aside for fire protection, departments often depend significantly on monies they can raise through festivals and other fundraising events. Flyer and poster printing services can provide the professional touch that increases the success of these fundraisers, while also highlighting measures locals can take to limit the possibility of a fire affecting their lives.
