Stand-up comedy returns to Ambler

Ambler comedy venue The Lab has opened its doors again and is preparing an upcoming show headlined by popular comic Darryl Charles.

The Lab has moved to a new performance space in Ambler but aims to provide the same assortment of offbeat comedic shows that it became known for. The comedy club returned to action with “Howl”, a showcase of stand-up talent from the Philadelphia area hosted by Megan Goetz, and The N Crowd, a new monthly improv-style show that incorporates video games and audience participation. The Darryl Charles performance was meant to re-open proceedings but was postponed for two months because of the severe storms in the Northeast.

Charles is an up-and-coming comedian who has opened for acts such as Dave Attell and comedy icon Dick Gregory, and whose recent album “Black Gentrifier” was a digital hit. Comedian Setioyo Ekpo was selected to open for Charles. Stand-up comedy shows often feature several performers each providing a short selection of their material, using tools like flyer printing and podcasts to help advertise. The Lab aims to change both the business model and content of the comedy club, using a BYOB model and scheduling relatively few shows per month. They will also be looking to bring back their popular programming aimed at teens and youth.

Daryll Charles is set to perform at The Lab on November 13 at its Ambler location.
