Residents hit the trails to preserve nature

The upcoming Run for the Woods races will include courses in Ambler.

Residents are spending more time in the forest enjoying the trails, scenery, and tranquility. In order to keep the trails in order, Wissahickon Trails are organizing a virtual 5K and fun run. Participants can fundraise while taking advantage of the trails.

They can run or walk 5K or one mile with friends and family in one of the many trails the Wissahickon Valley has to offer, such as The Green Ribbon Trail, which travels through Four Mills Nature Reserve in Ambler. The Four Mills Nature Reserve also includes a looping trails for the one mile run, as does Ambler’s Willow Lake Farm.

For those who are not able to attend the races, there are other ways to help such as telling everyone they know about the virtual races. Flyer printing and posting them on community boards is a way to advertise the event. Another way is to take pictures of the trails before the event ends and post them on social media.

Registration is $35 for a 5K and $20 for one mile. Each runner will digitally receive a completion certificate and race bib they can Print out, and a neck gaiter. The fastest three racers of each gender will win additional prizes. Racers who raise $300 or more get free registration, while those who raise $500 or more will win a gift card worth $50 from a local company.

Racers can run anytime between August 1 to 9.
