Dolan Memorial Fund founder announces retirement

After 40 years, Peggy Dolan of Ambler is retiring from her role as the chief storyteller and founder of the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund.

She and her husband Joe had created the fund when their daughter, Kelly Anne, was two years old. Kelly Anne was diagnosed with aplastic anemia at that time, and the fund was created to help other families manage the tremendous expenses that come with serious illnesses, disabilities, and injuries.

While her daughter was in and out of the hospital, Peggy met many other parents whose children were sick. She said that she was lucky at the time and had excellent insurance. Other parents were not as lucky, and she wanted to do something to help. Over time, Peggy was able to get 501(c)3 status, and learn more about how to raise funds for the growing organization. Many funds use Brochures to tell people about their services, including some of families they can help, and how a person can apply.

Peggy told Montgomery News that she had recently turned 70 years old, which prompted her to notice that the fund had been around for 40 years. She felt that it was the right time for her to leave, and allow the fund to bring in new blood.

Over the years, the fund has helped over 27,000 families through crisis in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
