The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University is offering an educational spring hike this May.
The arboretum is located on Temple University’s Ambler campus. The Spring Horticulture Hike will take participants through the space for an in-depth tour. Kathy Salisbury, the director of the facility, will lead the hike. Participants can expect to learn about the plants they see from a variety of perspectives. These will include usage, seasonal growth patterns, cultural history, scientific names and how to identify the plants, including how to determine the difference between those with similar appearances.
Benjamin Snyder, who is the Architecture Greenhouse Education and Research Complex Manager, and Temple’s Tyler School of Art are supporting the Horticulture Hikes program. The hike is free to attend, but participants need to sign up in advance on Temple Ambler’s website and donations are welcome. University-based institutions often use flyer printing services to promote their programs on campus.
A summer hike is planned for August and a fall hike for October. Online registration is open for all three events.
The hike will be canceled in case of a thunderstorm, but otherwise be held rain or shine. Participants should dress for the weather. Hikers should meet at Flagpole Circle, which is located in front of Bright Hall.
The Spring Horticulture Hike will take place on Friday, May 17, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
