What began as a tragedy has turned into a heartwarming story of kindness.
An Ambler family that recently lost their home in a fire has many reasons to be thankful. The two-story duplex was empty of human residents when the fire broke out, but the family pets remained.
The fire began in the kitchen and spread quickly. Two dogs were rescued by fire fighters in the home and revived with oxygen. A cat was also rescued when the homeowner arrived at the scene and coaxed it out of the house where it had been hiding in fear under a bed
The adjoining residence sustained some damage and the sole pet in that home, a golden retriever, was saved by a firefighter that kicked in the door of the home. It was uninjured, but the pets in the affected home were not as lucky. All are expected to survive, but the veterinary bills for the family could rise as high as $4,000.
To assist with these unexpected bills, the neighbors have begun a fundraising event to benefit the family. A GoFundMe page was established online to provide a convenient option for anyone that would like to contribute. The neighbors are also spreading the word throughout the media and could draw additional attention to the cause by distributing Flyers with the fundraising information.
Despite their losses, the family considers themselves lucky. They are safe and the lives of their pets were spared and no firefighters were hurt during the rescue. In addition, they have also discovered the kind spirit of their neighbors.
