A true heroine
Ambler is named for Mary Johnson Ambler, who was born in 1805, and lived with her husband Andrew in Wissahickon, a small town. On July 17, 1856, at about 6:00 am, two trains carrying over 1,000 passengers crashed head-on. The explosion was heard up to five miles from the scene. When Mary Ambler, who was known for her care of those who were injured or ill, heard about the collision, she got medical supplies together, walked to the site, and guided relief and rescue operations.
In 1869, the North Pennsylvania Railroad renamed the Wissahickon Station, calling it Ambler Station in her honor. In 1888, both the post office and the village of Wissahickon itself changed their names, and Ambler was officially born.
There are a number of organizations, such as the Montgomery County Historical Society and the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society, among others, that maintain links to the past. Organizations like these can benefit by working with brochure printers, which can create informative Booklets about interesting events and persons from the past.
Historic buildings
Ambler also boasts a number of historic buildings, such as the Ambler homestead, and a mill once owned by James Morris. The Keasbey and Mattison Company, asbestos manufacturers, moved to the town in 1881, and employed Italian stonemasons to build 400 homes for their workers. These houses are interesting because they vary widely in style.
James Morris also owned a house known as ‘Dawesfield’, which George Washington used from October 21, 1777 to November 20, 1777, as his headquarters. Dawesfield is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
Agencies involved in maintaining historic buildings can benefit by working with postcard printing companies, which can create cards illustrating various properties.
Ambler Main Street
Ambler Main Street is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that works to promote Downtown Ambler as a cultural, social, and business center. The district has a number of restaurants, shops, and entertainment opportunities that Ambler Main Street is committed to supporting. The group also organizes popular events that are held at various times during the year, such as a fall Oktoberfest, a Saturday morning Farmers' Market, and the Ambler Arts & Music Festival held in the spring.
Organizations such as these can enhance many kinds of events by working with flyer printing companies, which create handouts and mailers to announce upcoming programs.
Wherever businesses operate, be they large or small, they need well-designed products to run effectively, and to present a professional appearance to customers. To that end, they can work with Stationery printers, who will design and print classic, attractive Letterheads that represent the organization well.
They might also consider working with companies that print digital Business Cards. These traditional business tools are printed on a computer rather than a printing press, so even small orders can be completed quickly and at an economical cost.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Letterheads Get a Free Quote for Booklets Get a Free Quote for Print
