In the spirit of Christmas, many here in Salem will be supporting a couple of causes by attending a gala for trees and/or a 5k run.
Those getting ready to put up their Christmas trees may think about bidding for one at the Gala of Trees 2023. The event will have jumbo stockings and handcrafted wreaths, as well as all sizes of decorated trees for auction.
Proceeds will go to the host, Family Building Blocks, a non-profit dedicated to keeping families together and children safe.
Gala of Trees will be Friday, December 1 from 6:30pm to 11:00pm at the Salem Convention Center, 200 Commercial St. SE.
Those who would rather get out and run (or walk) for charity may enjoy attending the 12th Festivus 5k for Autism.
Registration will be $35 on race day, and swag will include t shirts sporting the event’s Logo Design for the first 400 to apply. The flat course will be fast with only one water stop.
Festivus pole trophies will go to overall female and male finishers, and awards will go to first, second, and third place finishers in eight categories, and to best male and female costumes.
Runners are invited to the post-run party at Finz Seafood and Grill.
Proceeds will go to the Northshore Education Consortium providing special education programs for kids.
