Two award-winning flutists, Jan Michael Looking Wolf and Robin Gentlewolf, are performing at the Loucks Auditorium in the Salem Library this November.
Looking Wolf, a Kalapuya Tribal Elder, is the recipient of the Global Music Awards Lifetime Achievement award. The concert features acoustic native folk songs played with Native American flutes, chants, and drums.
Though there is no entry fee, the concert is first come, first served, and will be appropriate for all ages. Weaving a narrative of humans’ connection with nature, Looking Wolf blends both contemporary techniques with traditional music. Known in the Salem community for hosting monthly flute circles in his home, Looking Wolf is also a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. Also a stroke survivor, he learned to play the Native American flute as part of his recovery process.
Joining him is Robin Gentlewolf, who is the recipient of multiple Global Music Awards and other accolades. In addition to playing the Native American flute, she is also an author and educator.
