Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, a non-profit organization that focuses on the Latinx community, is partnering with the Salem Public Library to display Latino culture and arts with a Charro Attire Exhibit at the Salem Public Library.
There will be six mannequins featured in the exhibit who will be dressed in handmade, authentic Charro attire. These mannequins will highlight how a custom that dates back more than 500 years is expressed. The name of the exhibit comes from the word “Charrería” which is a way to pay tribute to and honor a way of life of the past.
Special exhibits like this one often involve the creation of Brochures by local Print shops so that attendees are provided with their context and background information.
The richness of the arts and culture of the Latinx people will be highlighted in the exhibit so as to build community. Director of Communidad y Herencia Cultural, Antonio Huerta, said that since he has practiced charrería in this country, he has felt more connected to his homeland, his culture, and his people. He said that another benefit of practicing charrería in this country is that one can bring some of the cultural history of Latinos to Mexican Americas, particularly for the young people who might not otherwise learn about their heritage.
The Charro Attire Exhibit runs at the Salem Public Library until Friday, March 3.
