Doggie Dash is returning to the Salem Riverfront Park to help raise money for animals in need.
The annual event, formerly known as WillaMutt Strut, is a fundraiser for the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) to help support the animals there.
Participants can choose to either walk or run with their dogs, though the runners are asked to stay in front of the walkers to ensure smooth travel for all. Routes include a flat loop of 1k around the park, or a 5k that spans from Salem Riverfront Park and merges into Minto-Brown Island Park as part of a larger loop.
The Doggie Dash culminates in a festival with local vendors, eateries, activities for the whole family, and a 21-and-over section serving adult beverages. There are also competitions and awards.
The event is one of two Doggie Dash races, following one that occurred in Portland earlier this year and also benefited the OHS. To participate, runners or walkers must first register online. Prizes will be given out to participants based on set benchmarks they achieve.
Fundraising races like this may choose to use banner printing to create the start and finish lines.
Doggie Dash is happening on Saturday, June 14 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and starts at the Salem Riverfront Park at 183 Front St Ne.
