People looking for some family-friendly activities may want to know that a Daddy-Daughter Sock Hop dance event is happening at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Salem.
The event will include a craft soda fountain and snacks for refreshments. In terms of the entertainment side of things, there is not only a dancefloor, but a live DJ, crafts and a photo booth.
Sock hops today are often themed after the 1950s, as that was a period of time when they were popular. The dances originated in the mid-1900s, as early as the 1940s, as informal school events. The dance parties involved participants taking off their shoes, hence the name “sock hop,” to avoid damage to the gym floors.
While some events like this encourage participants to dress up in 1950s style, complete with hair and make-up of the time, this is not a listed requirement for the Daddy-Daughter Sock Hop. Like the sock hops of old, the dance party is being held in the gym portion of the venue, according to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church’s website.
Family-friendly events like these may choose to use flyer printing for low-cost promotion or poster printing to clearly mark the venue.
The Daddy-Daughter Sock Hop is happening on Saturday, March 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 1770 Baxter Rd SE. Tickets start at $5 and are available online and at the door.
