Second committee formed in favor for Portlands Metro measure

One day after the political action committee (PAC) “Stop the Metro Wage TAX” confessed that it committed a mistake by missing an important deadline in its efforts toward defeating Portland’s Measure 26-218, a second PAC in favor of the measure was formed.

The deadline to submit an opposition statement to be included in the Washington County Voters Pamphlet passed before the “Stop the Metro Wage TAX” group could present their reasons for opposing Measure 26-218 on the general election ballot on November 3. Voter Pamphlets for Multnomah and Clackamas counties will, however, include both pro and con statements.

Pamphlets, supplied by Print shops, are a vital part of politics. They are used to provide information voters need to make an informed decision.

The new pro PAC for the measure, "Infrastructure Jobs are Good Jobs", is led by International Union of Operating Engineers Local 701 and United Food & Commercial Workers Local 555. Neither “Infrastructure Jobs are Good Jobs” or “Stop the Metro Wage Tax” PACs have reported raising or spending any funds to support their position. The “Let’s Get Moving” PAC, which was the original committee in favor of the measure, has reported raising almost $460,000.

Measure 26-218, if passed, would place a 0.75% payroll tax to be paid by businesses with more than a specified number of workers. The intent of the measure is to raise funds for 17 regional transportation corridor projects.
