Portlands Winter Wonderland proceeds with a few adjustments

This year’s Safeway Winter Wonderland will continue its family-friendly tradition for the 28th year in Portland. However, what is billed as the “Largest Holiday Light Show West of the Mississippi” will implement some virus precautions this year.

Some changes this year include that attendees will be social distancing, no food donations will be accepted, and there will not be nights specified for biking or walking to view the lights. Additionally, to ensure minimal interaction for cashiers, cash will not be accepted, and protective plexiglass will separate the cashiers and public. Breaking with tradition, neither candy canes nor goodie Bags will be distributed this year, but via a QR code, virtual goodie Bags will be available.

A poster printing service is frequently engaged to help non-profits inform the public of any large fundraising events like this.

Winter Wonderland has been a holiday tradition since 1993, with more than two million visitors over the years enjoying 250 colorful light set pieces and a variety of fully animated scenes. Proceeds benefit the Sunshine Division and since there will be no collection of canned food this year, attendees have the option of adding a donation when purchasing their ticket.

Winter Wonderland opens on November 27 and runs through January 2 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm Sunday – Thursday, and 5:00 to 11:00 pm on weekends. The event takes place at the Portland International Raceway, which asks that cars with studded tires or chains stay off the racetrack.
