Portland City Council agrees to million-dollar investment

Portland City Council has recently started a process of making major improvements to the OMSI District, with their unanimous passage of $15.4 million for its funding.

The money will go toward the re-construction of Water Avenue and the installation of utilities for the new infrastructure’s support. The project also hopes to eventually include green spaces and parks amounting to 4.5 acres, a waterfront educational park, 1,200 affordable housing units, event centers, and business spaces.

Brochure printing services can provide details to the public of a city projects including a rendering of each phase upon its completed.

In addition to the monetary investment, the council also upvoted an Intergovernmental Agreement between PBOT and the community-building organization Prosper Portland. The agreement decrees the design funding and the management of the new reconfigured Water Avenue.

According to Prosper Portland’s Development and Investment director, Lisa Abuaf, the completion of the full 24-acre OMSI District project will take from 20 to 30 years. OMSI CEO and President Erin Graham expressed exuberance for the project, saying:
“It’s sort of a dream to be reaching this moment and having people feel so positively about their interactions with the spaces, and the fact that we create a space where people belong. Now we can think about doing that in more space and creating greater opportunities for people to engage with us.”

Looking for an additional $7 million for the project’s first phase OMSI, is hoping for a 2025 groundbreaking.
