Popular Portland Bridge Pedal and Stride in August

The annual Bridge Pedal, which now includes those who prefer walking, has been a way for the city to celebrate is iconic bridges while embracing its cycling culture since 1996, and continues in August 2023.

For one day a year, Portland’s six bridges, including the Marquam and Fremont bridges’ upper decks, are car free. This allows the safe riding of bicycles or traveling of pedestrians. In fact, in honor of one of the world’s biggest community bike rides, it is not just the bridges that will be devoid of cars but the streets on the bike route as well.

Frequently, events turn to printing services to supply customized merchandise to sell and raise additional funds.

The Portland Bridge Pedal and Stride comprises five events: the Fremont Express, nine bridges on a 23-mile course; Main Ride, containing eight bridges in 20 miles; Family Ride, a 13-mile, six-bridge course; Stride – a five mile walk over two bridges; and the three-mile Kids Pedal over two bridges.

All bikers are required to register and wear helmets. The Kids Pedal is free to take part in but still requires registration, while registration fees for the other events vary.

All rides begin on SW Naito Parkway at Morrison or Ash, except the Fremont Express which starts from the top of the Fremont Bridge following a sunrise breakfast. All finish lines are at SW Naito Parkway and Ash.

Scheduled for August 13, Portland Bridge Pedal and Stride proceeds go to BOB (Better Outcomes thru Bridges) Behavior Health Programs.
