Portland’s Cathedral Park will be the site of what is promoted as the longest-running jazz and blues festival to be held west of the Mississippi in July.
An annual summertime event designed to highlight Portland’s homegrown jazz and blues talent, as well as the natural beauty and charm of the Cathedral Park and St. Johns neighborhoods. Held each year by the Jazz Society, the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, has been held annually for 40 years. The event lasts three-days and costs nothing to attend.
The promotion of big events such as this one is often aided by the services of a banner printing company.
Held at the foot of the magnificent St. Johns Bridge, the mid-July festival will dedicate its first day to Blues music. Beginning at 4:30 pm, attendees will be treated to the likes of the Terry Robb Trio featuring Dave Captein on bass, Gary Hobbs on drums, and Terry Robb, a singer, virtuoso blues guitarist, and producer with 15 albums under his belt. Also performing will be Mary Flower, a successful singer, songwriter, and guitarist known for her lap slide and first-rate finger style playing of folk, blues, swing, ragtime, and hot jazz music combinations.
The second and third days of the festival will start at 1:00 pm and feature a mix of soul, jazz, and Latin performers such as Ural Thomas and the Pain, the Cuban-born Chuchito Valdés, and the group 3 Leg Torso.
The festival takes place July 14 to 16.
