Members of the PPS board, in addition to scrambling to find a replacement for Guerrero, will first have to decide upon someone to be become interim superintendent by February. A special meeting of the board was held in the middle of December to discuss the matter.
One board member, Andrew Scott, said he had no preference in whether the interim was chosen from inside or outside the school system, while another, Julie Brim-Edwards who has assisted in two searches for superintendents in the past however, had a different opinion. She said adamantly:
“It’s important for our interim not to be an applicant for the position.”
The school district is facing tens of millions in budget cuts to accommodate the new three-year deal that ended the month-long teacher strike, which may have played into Guerrero’s decision.
