Portland zoo to light up for holiday season

Coming up in November, Portland's Oregon Zoo will turn into a glowing holiday attraction.

A familiar favorite for Portland residents, ZooLights makes its seasonal return with light displays inspired by wildlife. Although most animals will not be on view, the event is centered on the illuminations, and visitors can ride the zoo train past life-sized animal lanterns or walk through tunnels glittering with lights. Treats include s'mores, popcorn, hot chocolate, and elephant ears.

Guests have the chance to reserve a private, heated snow globe. Each 60-minute session accommodates six guests and a shared firepit is included, along with hot cocoa and s'mores. One night, November 16, has been set aside for guests with different sensory processing needs and their families.

Night tickets can be bought in advance and used on any night between November 20 and December 31. Every ticket doubles as a TriMet fare to and from the zoo on the admission date, covering bus, MAX, WES, LIFT, and Portland Streetcar.

Organizers of seasonal attractions in the Portland area typically use signage to direct visitors, and banner printing can be a practical way to do so.

ZooLights runs from Friday, November 20 through Sunday, January 3 at the Oregon Zoo, 4001 Southwest Canyon Road, Portland. It opens every night at 4:30 pm and is closed November 24 through 26, as well as on Christmas Day.
