Portland welcomes Highland Games

A celebration of Scottish culture and heritage will take place in July here in Portland and feature Scottish dancing, athletic displays, crafts and of course bagpipes and drums.

The Portland Highland Games have been going on for over 60 years and offer an immersive Scottish experience. Held at Mt. Hood Community College, the Games take place on the college’s athletic fields. Nearby parking is available and free with a shuttle running continuously from the parking lots to the Games front entrance. For those who choose to walk from their car there will be Signs directing you to one of the gates, although the bagpipes may be all the directional information you need.

Banner printing services provide a particularly effective form of signage for events like these.

While not watching the games attendees can look through the various clan tents, learn about their Scottish history, shop for regional Scottish gifts for yourself as well as others and watch fun and informative demonstrations. Food and drink, including beer for those who can prove they are old enough to drink, will be available. Outside food and drink, other than alcohol are permitted.

This is a family friendly event; children are welcome, and families are advised to bring a stroller rather than a wagon for small children due to what may be a rough or muddy terrain. Please be advised that smoking, firearms and animals other than Service Dogs are not allowed.

The Portland Highland Games takes place on July 20.
