In November, organizers for one of Portland’s largest lights display announced that the popular show would be back this December, and now the question on everyone’s mind is “when will it start?” A banner printing service is invaluable for informing the public of an upcoming event like this.
There will be some changes this year. Unlike in previous years, there will be no designated pedestrian-only nights and no cocoa booth so as to limit COVID-19 exposure.
Peacock Lane comprises four residential blocks and came into being in 1924. Architect Richard F. Wassell is responsible for the lane’s house designs, which are English Tudor-style cottages. For decades now Peacock Lane has been referred to as “Portland’s Christmas Street.”
Organizers petitioned the National Register of Historic Places in 2018 to have Peacock Lane added to their list, noting the street’s holiday charm, and were successful. Peacock Lane resident Barbara Bushell, who spearheaded the effort for having the lane declared an historic district, said:
“We’re well-aware that this isn’t the biggest show around, it’s not the fanciest. It’s just the most fun.”
Peacock Lane lights will be on every night from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm from December 15 through the rest of the year.
