Once cast aside in favor of a Ritz-Carlton hotel, the city’s popular food cart pod on Alder Street has found a new home along the North Park Blocks.
As The Oregonian/OregonLive reported last month, city officials have been scrambling to find a new location for former Alder Street food carts. The solution they came up with will revitalize underused park space.
Food establishments setting up in a new area, even those without inside dining space, often utilize printing services to supply Menus to handout or drop off at nearby offices.
A nonprofit, Friends of the Green Loop, is working with pod owners announced recently that it has secured a spot for the food trucks. Around 30 carts will relocate next to the Ankeny Street, 8th Avenue and Southwest Park Avenue curbs at the North Park Blocks’ southern end.
According to the schematics, some streets may need to be closed to make way for the food stands. Moving the carts could eliminate 22 parking spaces; the amount of revenue that could be lost from meter fees is not clear.
According to the Green Loop an announcement of the reopening date will soon follow. The group is looking to raise $300,000 in donations to cover the cost of electrical, plumbing, and moving costs. So far, $13,000 has been raised and a Go Fund Me account has been set up for donations.
