New directory leads consumers to locally sourced fresh food

Oregon Taste, a searchable online database listing locally grown fresh food in the state, has recently been launched by James Beard Public Market.

The state-wide service is designed to provide a reliable source of information regarding Oregon’s local fresh foods and the businesses that utilize them, as well as food events for Portland consumers and others in the state. Initially the Oregon Taste directory will be centered on the state’s local producers who sell their fresh foods directly to consumers.

Among listings the public can expect to locate are sellers of local, fresh, direct-to-consumer products, in addition to information regarding farmers, farmers’ markets, roadside stands, pick-your-own fields, orchards, fishers, and ranchers. Searchers of the directory can filter their search by locale or specific food product.

Flyer printing services are used by some fresh food providers to share their rates with consumers.

Plans are in the works for the directory to expand to include food processed or manufactured in Oregon, such as wine, spirits, beer and other beverages. Further down the line, plans are to add food-related non-profits, food organizations and agencies with links to their websites.

The directory will be offered at no cost to consumers, sellers ,and local farmers as a public service project. Throughout the state, organizations are working together in partnership with James Beard Public Market to assist in linking consumers to Oregon food producers.
