Gateway Green reopens following completion of improvement

A recent press release by Portland Parks & Recreation has announced Gateway Green’s reopening and detailed the improvements that took place there.

Visitors to the park will be greeted by new trails, as well as a new gravity-oriented bike trail. A nearly 600-foot asphalt pump track has been added, along with improvements to restroom facilities and increased access to water fountains. Additionally, a new grassy gathering area and a playground are part of the facelift.

Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz was quoted in the release as saying:

“Gateway Green is a truly unique park. These improvements have enhanced natural habitat as well as providing more options for active and passive recreation. I’m glad Parks has continued to partner with Friends of Gateway Green and citywide off-road cycling enthusiasts to create this special place.”

Larger parks that include walking, biking or equestrian trails frequently utilize a flyer printing service to create park maps.

The 25-acre Gateway Green is a park under the care of the Portland Parks & Recreation Department. In 2008, the Gateway Green Vision Plan was established, and the design for this hiking and off-road cycling park was fashioned with the community’s help in 2018. Instrumental to the park’s success are community partners Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) and Friends of Gateway Green (FoGG) that help with programing and trail maintenance.

Visitors to Gateway must follow public health guidelines, which currently means wearing a face covering and maintaining a minimum of six feet social distancing.
