A conversation with educator Melissa Madenski about people’s experiences in growing old will be held at the Beaverton City Library later this month.
During the program, attendees will be able to discuss their own stories about growing older and how those stories are a reflection of a person’s fears and ideals, and those of the community. Discussions will also focus around the role of mentors, the wisdom of the experiences of elders, and the meaning of growing old in America.
Madenski has worked in private and public schools throughout the Northwest. She has also been at Lewis and Clark College as a Northwest Writing Institute Associate where she received grants to bring writing programs to rural towns in Oregon and taught courses at the graduate level. Recently, she worked with the Multnomah County Library in creating programs for adults to improve reading levels, obtain GEDs, and practice their English language skills.
The program is sponsored by Oregon Humanities through its Conversation Project. This project enables members of the community to take part in challenging and thoughtful conversations about ideas that are important to people’s lives and the future of the community. More information about such programs can be disseminated to the public by various types of printing services.
The program will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday, February 9.
