New workforce training center and housing to be built in Portland

Plans are underway at Portland Community College (PCC) for a new Portland Metropolitan (Metro) Workforce Training Center. This building will be two stories high and will replace two older buildings in that location.

This facility will be a hub for connecting PCC to members of the community and employers and will provide advice on job searches, careers, and additional college courses to help with workforce training. Resumé writing services and driver education will also be provided. Residents of Beaverton will be able to take advantage of such services as the Oregon Department of Human Services will also be housed in the building.

Office and community space will take up most of the Metro Center but community partners who offer counseling and health care will also occupy the building. Flyer printing can be used to make people aware of such services and how to take advantage of them.

In addition to help with jobs, training, and education, a 90-unit apartment building will be built on the same site and will provide affordable housing. The Metro Center is being designed by Bora Architects while Hacker Architects is designing the affordable housing. The two buildings will share a plaza between them. The developers are hoping that some synergy will develop between the two buildings, as users or residents of one can take advantage of the other.
