Bus drivers needed in Beaverton

The Beaverton School District is looking to hire school bus drivers for the upcoming academic year.

The district needs 30 to 40 bus drivers and will be holding two Bus Driving Hiring Events where those who are interested in the position will be able to test drive a school bus. Job interviews will also be held on site. Such job fairs are often advertised and promoted throughout a community with banner printing.

J.D. Russell who came into the position with no experience and has been driving school buses for the district for 10 years. Russell said that driving a school bus with students on board can be challenging, but the district will train anyone who does not already know how to drive a school bus and educate them on the required skills. Russell said that he sees the bus as an extension of the classroom such that bus drivers are like educators and teachers, and need to build meaningful relationships with students.

The position is 30 hours a week, offering flexible schedules. Beginning pay is $18.30 an hour, and full benefits are offered with pay at $24 an hour.

The two hiring events will be held on Wednesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 21 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the parking lot of the Capital Center on the corner of Southwest Walker Road and Southwest 185th.
