Beaverton to welcome new scoop shop
A new ice-cream store will be opening in Beaverton.
Salt & Straw is part of a chain of ice-cream stores founded in 2011 in Portland by cousins Tyler and Kim Malek. This location in Beaverton will be in the Cedar Hills Crossing shopping mall on W. Cedar Hills Boulevard. The location in Beaverton will be the sixth such shop to open in Oregon, with one location in Lake Oswego and three in Portland.
The chain started out using a pushcart to serve eight original flavors. It prides itself on sourcing its ingredients in the area and hand-making its ice cream, as well as having shops that serve as a gathering place where guests can learn more about themselves and the community.
Classic flavors include chocolate gooey brownie, double fold vanilla, and honey lavender. Every four weeks, each location launches limited-edition flavors appropriate for the time of year. Such shops can turn to flyer printing to let those in the community know about their offers. There are always three dairy-free varieties on the menu, as well as gluten-free options.
Kim Malek expressed her excitement about being part of the community of businesses and restaurants in the Cedar Hills area of Beaverton, and being able to bring a new energy to the area. The shop in Beaverton is planning to open next summer.
